This tutorial will walk you through the steps to set up a new web site in Macromedia Dreamweaver MX. Newer versions of Dreamweaver, such as MX 2004 or Dreamweaver 8 will look a bit different.

Assuming you already have DreamWeaver (DW) open on your computer.
Click on Site>New Site:

Name your site.

Click NEXT.
Check - No, I do not want to use a server technology (you aren't going to be using ASP, .Net, or PHP for this project.

Click NEXT
Now you will select how and where you want to work with your files for your web site.
Select the Edit local copies on my machine, then upload to server when ready radio button.

Locate your website folder you created to put your html files into. |
Click NEXT.
Select FTP from the dropdown menu under "How do you connect to your remote server?"
Then fill in the ftp address your ISP gave you, your username and password.

Click on Test Connection. Dreamweaver will tell you if it has successfully connected to your server. Some sites that use firewall software won't let DW directly connect, so you would have to use an FTP program such as WS_FTP. In that case, you would provide this same information in the FTP software and select NONE from the first drop down menu "How do you connect to your remote server?"
Click NEXT
Check No, do not enable check in and check out (this is an advanced feature).

Click NEXT
Review your information. If anything is incorrect, use the Back button to go back to the appropriate screen to correct it.

Click DONE
The very next step is to save the default 'untitiled' page as your index page by clicking on File>SaveAs
Your 'home' page or the very first page that users see when they type in your URL must be named index.htm or index.html.

Click on Save.
Now you are ready to start creating your website. You see the website name, folder, and file name in the blue title bar at the top of the browser. You can also see that the current page showing is the index.htm page.
