Is using multimedia in online courses effective pedagogy or just bells and whistles?

I hope that I have demonstrated that multimedia can be extremely effective in online courses. I also hope that I have brought to light many of the issues and considerations that must be addresses before one decides to jump into development.

I also hope that the examples I've shown illustrate that even though much effort is necessary to produce quality multimedia, it is definitely worth it.

I'd like to make mention that this program was listed as one of the top online Engineering programs in the nation by U.S. News and World Report (Oct. 15, 2001). Although, no formal evaluation of the effectiveness of the media in these courses has been conducted, we have received very positive anecdotal feedback from students and the instructors.

Thank you for allowing me to share with you.
